Not content with the recent lame-o-vision that went viral involving a Filipino couple making their way around Singapore (complete with home pregnancy kit as engagement present and one of the most awkward 'hugs' ever caught on camera), the local advertising geniuses are on the money again with an ad targeting problem gamblers.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm from Australia where problem gambling is a big... problem, largely because every corner pub is also a mini-casino, complete with poker machines, TAB (horse & greyhound) betting facilities, and in some cases even the odd roulette wheel. And then there the actual casinos...
Having said that, I do understand the nature of gambling. So when the local advertising minds tried to pull at heartstrings with a kid saying "I hope Germany win, my Dad spent all my life savings on them" [winning the World Cup], they may have underestimated the capabilities of one of the great footballing nations. Proof being the Germans 7-1 thumping of Brazil the other night, which I was awake for and was one of the best games of football I've seen.
Better luck next time, marketing dudes. Or better yet, maybe let someone other than the work experience kids come up with your ideas from now on. I bet it will be worth it.
