We had a friend's wedding on in Melbourne last month, a proper 1920's style affair where everybody went to a massive effort on the costumes and they even had a 1920's style band. It was all very Great Gatsby and a quality night out - pity we had to do the seven hour flight back to Singapore the following day, talk about a show-stopper.
Melbourne managed to turn on four 40+ degree days in a row while I was down there, so the other thing I remember about the trip was a lot of people walking around saying 'f*ck its hot'. The other highlight of the trip included seeing Jimmy Carr on the Friday night. What a legend. Very, very funny.
Staying with my brother was awesome as he lives in Camberwell in Melbourne's inner east. Its all houses on suburban blocks, local high streets filled with cafes and good restaurants, and the famous trams. I can see why the place is regularly rates among the world's easiest places to live.
Melbourne City from the famous Flinders Street Station:
And Suburban Willison, where people live on quarter acre blocks two minutes walk from the station. Domestic bliss.
